Well the bots got my blog spirit down, still real life goes on…

Happy Halloween 

This post is off topic!  It’s about the right to turn off Bots.
This is more of a plea for help and a Rant from an upset, abused person!
I’m probably one week away from shutting down my blog and moving it somewhere else. Another server and domain perhaps? Why you ask and why Am I discussing it here?

Trying to get a handle on this through server control files like .htaccess or Robot.txt and at what level they should reside and how long they take to listen is like performing magic.

While I’m mastering this, users are often kept out, I lose posts, and basically when something is not working right, because of speed or comments, people just go away. In my mind it is a form of censorship as it is to many other users. Sure I’m flattered to have references to my blog sought out by the different engines.  but…

A. I never asked for it
B. for some people it a Bandwidth problem.
C. It slows the system to a crawl.
D. It deters users from re-visiting.

Just to name a few.
So can we get all the brainiacs together and put up a formula for people who spend the $125 U.S. + to have access to their own server, register a domain.
What is the proper syntax, which files should be modified, where should they reside. Are there other tricks out there that deter the bots, can you turn them all off or just some? Can you let them crawl in certain places and not others?

Why don’t they schedule them by time zone and hit at 3.am when there maybe less traffic?

I consider myself above average when it comes to this stuff, but I’ve slowly been fighting this for over a year.  First off of PhPbb2 boards.  This seems to have worked, now I have to apply the same medicine here.   How’s that line go?   Fuck the Fucking Fuckers!

I see some re-decorating going… I haven’t been paying as much attention as I usually do, but The SecretBrain has a nice makeover.  Let alone the cartoon that’s posted there today!  Funny.  Miss Tragic has move to a new url, I don’t know what’s happened to the old one one but the new one has some great Halloween spirit.  Check it out.  Its entitled End of Never   .  Adjust your links accordingly.

 Speaking of Halloween spirit, AlexSuze were early in the game.  The last couple HNT’s were very much in the spirit, not to mention the banner.  Madame X’s blog is in the spirit too with a string of Pumpkins at the top and also a fun HNT.  Check these out! 

By the way, stand alone servers can have down time too.  Not only Blogger comes with a bag of down time.  As well, you need  the knowledge to block undesired visitors and bots.   A good FTP program etc…  Anyway, for the past 2 weeks, our host has made changes, plus the bots all decided to party on our servers.  So I blocked a few more.  (Inktomi Slurp)  slurps too much and slows activity to a crawl.  Not to mention the acquired knowledge of the software you decide to go with.

What on earth is Blogger Beta?  Maybe users can enlighten me!  I have a Blogger account, which conveniently allos me to post comments on my friends’ blogs.  However, the new one "Beta" picks up on my Gmail registration and sends me to create a new one.

So tell me what is Beta about it.   Also, what is Blogger 2 API, code to design skins?  Don’t be afraid to shed some light on this for me. 

Enough of that, I mentionned this week, Mr. Gently, who hosts a blog entitled  Gently, Gently .  Active since January, this gentleman is a busy body, hosting SBC as well as contributing to Scenes, which I also previously noted.  Mr. Gently’s blog goes without saying, is good stuff!  Hosted on Blogger, nice theme, the mission statement goes :  Sexy and erotic fiction and ideas.  If you’re looking for the Sugasm round up, Mr. Gently posts these too.  Altogether, a good adult blog, with a fresh perspective on things.

I’ve also explored some the ideas, coming off SBC, Mr. Gently’s spin off.  The information there is handy and valid, hence I may go back and read further on Blogger, as ther’s seems to be a fair amount of info there.  

As for ideas and discussion there, regarding "this" community, which I will briefly describe as the adult writing community;  I have spent the better part of the last year and a half, promoting writers and somehow, I do feel it has brought together a lot of people.  Not so much of late, as I find, there are now better tools to do what I was doing at first.  It’s called evolution!  Still I have fun doing what I do, and intend on going. 

BlogStormz and  ABH are probably the best 2 tools out there to get exposure.  SBC is not so much about exposure, it’s more of a Forum, Blog style.  Which is a good idea, because I don’t think  a PhPbb2 type board would have worked.  These serve a different community altogether.

As I look at the list of participants,  there’s no doubt in my mind, SBC is a success.  As for PhPbb2 or chat rooms, many of us have the capacity of setting these up, and have come forward.  Why bother, if SBC is working out?  Forums PhPbb2 styles have become a bit of a headache vis a vis unwanted users and spam bots etc.  Ask Me, I Know!  (BTW)  There is still a chatroom setup on DHSpicy and I’ll be glad to grant new passwords and access(or we kcan keep it open for a Naughty bit one night!).  Again, with Google Chat, MSN, or Yahoo, is there really a need for this?

The nice thing about being away sometimes, there are tons of things to rediscover when you return.I

I just came across .  A new project, hosted by Anastasia of Sexualité.  Promoting short Stories about 1,000 words.  Read on to the "All About Scenes" post which tells you a bit about the guidelines.

Another little discovery I made dropping in on my favourite blogs was Sex Blogger Community.  A place where members of this community, can discuss ideas.  This project put together by Mr. Gently of  Gently Gently.  (A blog a intend to review).

By the way, good guidelines…  SIC:  Stop Internet Censorship is probably a place everyone should visit once in a while to look at the real world and problems that can come about when your blogging.  There’s nothing worse than to find out you’ve been hacked, or that your work has been copied and pasted from your blog onto someone else’s.   Sic has been around for nearly a year and may answer many of your questions if and when things are going wrong.

Now tonight, is one of those nights when I would like to visit a lot of familiar and new places, but for some reason, Blogger is crawling.  On the enough people are running their own domain or servers, like LazyGeisha, AlexSuze, ABH, Blogstormz, Bubblegum Meltdown, just to name a few.

Is there anything to say about Halloween and sex?  I didn’t think there was, until I looked it up.  It wasn’t long ’till it turned into:  fear and sex, and where do you draw the line.  I found stuff from couples having sex with the wrong partner on account of the disguise to any woman can dress into a real slut, and no one will hold it against her.
