The Gym Thing- My Info-Commercial :-)

The Gym Thing continues for me.  That is showing up for an hour Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.  As spring and summer arrives, I thought I might see a difference in attendance but no.  The regulars are the regulars and the newbies keep on registring.

Do I feel better?  You bet!  Have I list that much weight?  No.  Perhaps 5 lbs 2 kilos or so initially but there was at least 2 months of status quo even though I was working hard.  Did I do it for the weight?  No not initially, but while your at it why not. 

Since I’m conscious, I could afford to loose another  20 lbs / 8 to 10 kilos, why not go for it.  It’s not rocketship science.  I just didn’t want to do it.  The word is dieting.  Yes you may have heard of this.  I prefer calling it watch what you eat.  As in, no snacks cut the deset and chips and on regular meals control the volume or intake.

After 1 week of doing this this, the 5 lbs has turned into 7 lbs.  In case you were wondering yes it did cost me another hole in my belt.  Having no ass to speak of, DW just teases me about plumber pants.

As for the gym, there’s 25 minutes each session of level 5-6 peddal my ass off, 5 minutes of abs machine, 20 minutes of treadmill 5 - 10 minutes of muscle toning on the arms 10 minutes of stairmaster, which is another beauty!  If some of the equipment is busy I head over to the rowing equipment. 

The idea for me is cardio, it’s not really about looking like the hulk.  It’s about controlling cholesterol.  Up until today, I just basically did what the good doctor told me.  I’m delighted to report this link on The Impact of Excercise on Cholesterol which corroborates my efforts.

cc_GymRules_01_Katalina_Verdin_AltNew.jpgAs a smoker who suffers from coming home and sitting at the computer, this is probably the best thing that’s happened to me, so I will continue and encourage you to get out there and find a regular excercise program.  

 

 

I come home with my shirt drenched and throw it into the laundry as I get into the shower.  For some of you with a little more time on your hands, the gyms do come with full shower facilities, so you don’t have to travel home like a wet rag.  Moreover, if you really want to treat yourself, most also have a Sauna and some a whirlpool.  The whole thing can be a treat. 

As some of you may know, I was always biking in the summer, and I will continue to do so.  Summertime is not enough; the program must be regular .  So next time you see those info-commercials on equipment or slim down weight programs you can still turn them off because they are annoying.  But please give the whole concept some consideration.  Don’t wait for your doctor to go after you.

 Other benefits undocumented:  Coincidence?  My body has been able to fight off the common cold this year.  Did it raise my immusne system?  On the days that I work out, I have more energy.  I can’t fall asleep with as much ease as I usually do.  Of course, this opens up all kinds of discussions and actions!

Oh yeah, and the little picture above is that of Playboy model Katalina Verdin I hope it will encourage you to shape up!  True, not all of the members look like her, but I can say that it’s easy to appreciate a fit and trim body when you see one.  Let alone the other benefits and discipline that go along with it.
